I am a certified K-12 art teacher with an additional 6-12 Earth science endorsement. I enjoy my career in education as I have an immense passion for teaching and learning. I have had the unique opportunity to teach both art and science. Currently, I teach ceramics full time at Kuna High School. For the last 13 years I have worked with the Van Go outreach program to bring art to rural schools around Idaho. I have also worked closely with the Mentoring Network to provide art opportunities to Idaho students.
During my time as the ceramics teacher at KHS, the number of students enrolled in the program has quadrupled. In addition to developing a rigorous and popular art program, I led our school in an anti-bullying campaign. By developing a presentation with drama students and promoting anti-bullying messages throughout the school, we have substantially decreased the reported incidences of bullying.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy all things related to art, music, gardening, hiking, mountain biking, and anything in the outdoors.

I make art, that is what I do. For a very long time I have defined myself by what I have made. Over the past 7 years spent as an art educator I have come to equally define myself by the students I teach. Students bring new vitality and new challenges to the process of art making. They have helped me to experience art in new ways and see the beauty in the struggle to create. I hope that along the way my students have come to find the joy in making art and using it as a voice to define who they are.
I teach with the belief that art and imagery is a dominant force in our lives. We use imagery and art to communicate so much of who we are and what we value. Art is not simply relegated to filling blank walls of our homes and the quiet spaces in museums, art is and always has been a defining part of humanity. My goal is to bring an awareness of art and the language of visual imagery to my students so they can be active participants in the world rather than bystanders. By learning the language of art they see, hear, and say more.
When I am not making and teaching art I am very happy to spend my time with wife and 4 children. They have a fantastic way of bringing me back to reality when I get stuck in my art making world. Kuna High is a fantastic place to teach. I work with the best people around. Every one of them is dedicated to the craft and process of teaching students art at the highest level.

Leonard Bernstein said, "to achieve great things two things are needed: a plan and not quite enough time." Though I've been teaching in public schools for only a short time, that has definitely been the case!
I'm originally from North Ogden, UT where I grew up with music around all the time. My mother was a piano teacher and when I had a chance to take a band class in junior high, I jumped at the opportunity to get out of piano lessons. Unfortunately for me (at least at the time), I was then required to take both piano AND trumpet lessons! It certainly was not the loophole I was looking for!
I graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2012 after student teaching with Vanessa Perala at Mountain View High School. Prior to arriving in Kuna I was teaching band, choir and general music at Homedale High School and Middle School.
I look forward to building upon the successes that have been seen by the music program here in Kuna by giving all students an opportunity to receive an outstanding music education!

They say that with singers, "your voice finds you." And that was the case with me. I was studying art at college and they were casting an opera. I had always wanted to try opera, and so I auditioned. They offered me the lead and a full ride scholarship and the rest is history! From that moment on, I ate, drank, and slept singing for about 10 years. My singing took me all over the United States, Canada, and Europe where I sang leading and supporting roles for many professional opera companies. I earned a masters degree at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and won a number of competitions including the Metropolitan Opera Utah and Idaho district auditions.
After all of that, I realized that I loved everything about singing EXCEPT for being away from my family. We returned to Idaho where I joined the music faculty of Boise State University. I taught at BSU for a number of years. six years ago, Mrs. Cook was having a baby and asked me if I would be interested in taking Kuna's choir program for 3 months. It was a life changing experience and I haven't looked back since. I entered the public schools and taught at East Valley in the Nampa School District for five years and helped the choir and orchestra programs become very successful. Now, I am absolutely excited to be working with Kuna's incredible students! My beautiful wife, Amy is also a singer. We live with our 4 children in nearby Melba.
